Melbourne on course to double figures

Melbourne, the independent server hosting provider, is celebrating its 10th birthday this week after posting a set of financial results that are up 30 per cent on the previous year’s figures.

The company’s fiscal report for the year ending 2010 shows a turnover of £2 million with a gross profit of £1.1 million pounds.

According to managing director, Daniel Keighron-Foster, the team is also well on track to deliver a 50 per cent growth in revenue, with a goal of £3 million turnover for 2011.

He said: “We’re delighted with our progress over the last 12 months. The company’s growth is all the more impressive given the significant investment we’ve made in the business since the start of the year.

“Over the last six months, we’ve increased the number of employees by 50 per cent, invested £50,000 in a new cloud computing service and upgraded our facilities with the launch of a new 22-rack suite. We hope this investment will safeguard the future development of the business and allow us to grow organically. We have ambitious expansion plans and our sights are set on reaching a turnover of £10 million by 2014.”

The financial results come at a crucial point in Melbourne’s development as it celebrates its 10th birthday this week. The company provides fixed and virtual hosting solutions for over 3,000 local, national and international clients in the IT and creative sectors, including PZ Cussons, Bench and JJB Sports.

A computer prodigy, Daniel set up the firm at the age of 18 while still at university and to date, Melbourne operates three data centres. A firm advocate of the green agenda, Melbourne is committed to reducing its energy consumption by only purchasing renewable energy. As a result, it won a “big green chip” award for its environmental initiative at the 2009 Big Chip Awards.

Speaking of the company’s 10th birthday celebrations, Daniel added: “We’ve worked incredibly hard over the last decade to deliver the best possible service and support for our clients without losing sight of our ethics or principles. Reaching this milestone is down to every single member of our team who live, eat and breathe the job – I couldn’t be more proud of the company and our achievements over the last 10 years.”
