NASA scientists will travel to Salford to celebrate the arrival of the Martian probe on Mars, the only NASA representatives to leave the US. NASA astronauts have selected Salford as the exclusive venue for this screening because of its world-class facilities at MediaCityUK.
At 5:30am, the screening starts at MediaCityUK and viewers will follow seven nerve-racking minutes as the Martian probe ‘Curiosity’ travels through the hostile atmosphere on Mars. Throughout the process, they will listen live to NASA’s Mission Control as Curiosity touches down.
To facilitate this historic occasion, Metronet (UK) will be providing connectivity to allow the images from space to be viewed. Using its unique hybrid technology mix of dark fibre and last mile wireless, Metronet (UK) is able to deliver an uncontended leased line service within hours of receipt of order. This service will be live for 7 days to allow for testing before the event.
Metronet (UK) Director, James McCall said, “Metronet (UK) is really excited to be supporting MediaCityUK and NASA with top class connectivity for the Martian landing. There is no other company that could deliver space age Internet on a short-term basis for an occasion like this. Metronet (UK) not only transmits through the air to the rest of the world but now also transmits from Mars!”
Stuart Thorley, Head of Technology for MediaCityUK said, “This is one giant step for MediaCityUK and one giant leap for the UK. Metronet (UK) is the ideal partner, giving us the flexibility to make the showing of the Mars Landing a success with a communications infrastructure that we know we can trust. Metronet (UK)’s services are truly interstellar!”
