Paul has over 14 years experience in the design, development and manufacture of medical devices in the NHS and the commercial sector, gained after completing his PhD in Chemistry at the University of Kent in collaboration with the Royal Institution and Courtaulds.
Paul’s commercial experience includes involvement in the development of a number of advanced wound care and ostomy products, including multi million dollar brands such as AquacelTM Ag He is also a named inventor on a number of patents. He has worked in a variety of roles at all stages of the product development process from early stage research and development to transfers of technology from research into manufacturing production. He has also acted as a scout in the private sector, evaluating technologies offered as licensing opportunities. During four years experience working in a manufacturing / operations environment Paul gained a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt in 2004.
Paul has spent the last two years as Commercial Services Manager for TrusTECH – NHS Innovations North West providing access to NHS expertise, business intelligence and clinical evaluations to private innovators seeking to access the NHS market. He has delivered numerous market research projects and project managed several clinical evaluations of promising novel medical devices in a wide variety of clinical areas.
Commenting on his appointment, Paul said: “The health service is facing a number of challenges and I’m looking forward to encouraging and enabling innovators to work closely with the NHS to develop new medical devices and treatments that provide high quality and sustainable healthcare for our patients.”
The MedTECH Centre is a partnership between the Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CMFT), the North West Development Agency (NWDA), Manchester Science Parks (msp) and Corridor Manchester, and is collaboratively operated by TrusTECH and msp. The Centre’s aim is to draw on the strengths of its partners to accelerate the development of innovative medical technology.
This is achieved by combining the first class business accommodation and support provided by msp with systematic access to NHS expertise provided by CMFT through its five hospitals (St Mary’s Hospital, Manchester Children’s Hospital, Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, Manchester Dental Hospital and Manchester Royal Infirmary), which together form a regional centre of clinical excellence and an ideal venue for innovation.
